Student week

During the Student Week, the Student Chamber of the Council of Higher Education Institutions annually commemorates events related to International Student Day. The program traditionally begins on November 11, the anniversary of Jan Opletal’s death, with the ceremonial presentation of the Jan Opletal Awards, which recognize exceptional students and young personalities for their contributions to the academic community, civic engagement, and the defense of the values of freedom and democracy. 

The subsequent program continues on November 17 with a memorial meeting in front of the Hlávka Dormitory, organized in cooperation with the Josef, Marie, and Zdeňka Hlávka Foundation, honoring the heroism and courage of Czechoslovak students who stood up to the Nazi regime in 1939. This meeting is followed by a student march that leads to the memorial plaque of Jan Opletal and Václav Sedláček, symbolically commemorating the victims of the student struggle for freedom. Subsequently, a memorial service is held at Albert’s on November 17, 1989, where participants commemorate the students’ heroism and courage.
